Brian F. McCauley
Senior Fellow

Brian McCauley has served with distinction for over thirty-five years in the law enforcement and military communities, as a former senior executive of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), member of the United States Secret Service (USSS), and officer in the United States Marine Corps (USMC).

His expansive investigative and military experience includes leadership positions as the FBI Deputy Assistant Director of International Operations, Associate Deputy Director of the National Clandestine Service (NCS) for Intelligence Community Human Intelligence (HUMINT), Senior FBI Representative to the Director of Central Intelligence, Supervisory Counterterrorism Division Military Liaison & Detainee Unit, FBI Anthrax Investigation Team, and the first Legal Attaché in Kabul, Afghanistan responsible for agency operations. In addition, he completed domestic and international assignments at The White House and foreign missions with the USSS and the USMC.

He was recognized for his exceptional leadership for missions in Afghanistan which supported United States Special Forces and the FBI National Security missions that enabled the United States Government and International Special Operations Forces to detain and arrest numerous terrorists over an extensive period leading to major successes in the war on terror. He also led numerous innovative interagency and international initiatives, to include the hostage working cell, anti-corruption task force, and the Joint Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) task force credited with saving the lives of numerous U.S. and International Coalition forces.

He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, to include the prestigious FBI Director’s Award, Defense Intelligence Agency’s Director’s Award, Ellis Island Medal of Honor for operational collaboration and integration Department of Defense and the United States Special Operations Command, and the distinctive NCS Donovan Award.

He is a graduate of Notre Dame College and several senior executive programs and currently resides with his wife Audrey and their son Brian in West Springfield, VA,
