John Milton Peterson
Contributing Analyst

John M. Peterson III Mr. Peterson is a government contractor in the national security realm and is a combat veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces (a.k.a. the “Green Berets”) with multiple deployments to the Middle East and Asia.

He is currently a Contributing Analyst at the Gold Institute for International Strategy and longtime General Advisor, writer, and conference presenter for the International Association of Counterterrorism & Security Professionals (IACSP). He has served on their Advisory Board since being appointed in 1997 as well as serving as Special Projects Director, contributing to their long running journal many times, and representing the organization in presenting about terrorism at national level conferences as well as instructional invites to government. His post 9/11 experience includes a combat tour on a Special Forces team in Afghanistan followed by a series of government positions and contracts in support of national security and the Global War On Terrorism.

These include being recruited to a position at the new U.S. Department of Homeland Security after 9/11, followed by contracts for the Department of Defense and U.S. Intelligence Community focused on counterterrorism, intelligence, special operations, and training of personnel in these professions. During this period, he worked on more than one assignment where he was deployed overseas assigned to collect and analyze intelligence on terrorists, including specialized training and assignments focused on targeting and countering IED networks. In another, he taught special operations troops intelligence techniques & tactics for targeting of terrorist networks, to include clandestine photo/video, surveillance techniques, and other skill sets. He has also worked many times as a professional role player and been a developer of elaborate counterterrorism training scenarios for the military, to include involving IEDs, WMD, personnel recovery, and CT.

His professional memberships include such natsec, security, and law enforcement related organizations as the Association of Former Intelligence Officers, AFCEA, Global SOF Foundation, OSS Society, National Tactical Officers Association, International Law Enforcement & Educators Association, Nine Lives Associates, National Writers Union, and the National Press Club.

He is a life member of the Academy of Security Educators & Trainers, IACSP, AFCEA, American Preservation Alliance, Special Operations Association, Special Forces Association, Army Sniper Association, Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is the co-founder of the American Sniper Association and a large police conference. He has presented at 56 professional conferences to date, to including being a longtime presenter at TREXPO, GOVSEC, and multiple SWAT, sniper, and terrorism conferences. He has written for publication in newsstand, online, professional journals, and membership publications more than five dozen times to date
